  English Language Centre - Connections VolunteerThe Connections Mate Volunteer acts as a leader and chaperone to enhance ‘student experience’ and provide authentic ‘social connections’ between international students studying at the University of Adelaide’s English Language Centre (ELC) who have registered their interest to participate with the ELC Connections Program at either internal or external events organised by the ELC.Ìý Responsibilities- Must be in attendance with students at all times for the duration of an event or activity.
- Ensure students arrive at the specified location on time, through the appropriate transportation.Ìý
- Ensure students return safely to the designated location upon completion of an event or activity.Ìý
- Be reliable and commit, when indicated, to the duties and times required.
- Timely communication if you cannot commit to an event anymore due to unforeseen circumstances.Ìý
 Who can apply?Applicants can be students, alumni, staff or members of the public with a good standard of spoken English, a clear voice and good listening skills. Knowledge of local area and attractions is beneficial.   Human Research Ethics Committee - Indigenous Representative (Proxy)Please note this is a proxy role that is required only for backfill when the primary representative is unavailable. The role of the University of Adelaide Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is to protect the welfare and rights of participants in research undertaken at, or in conjunction with, the University of Adelaide. This is done in accordance with the NHMRC (National Statement). The HREC reviews research submissions and considers the ethical implications of proposed research projects on human participants and determines whether they are acceptable on ethical grounds. The HREC also includes the following membership categories: a chairperson, community members, health professionals, pastoral care representative, indigenous representative, a lawyer and experienced researchers. Responsibilities Eligibility - Current knowledge of research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and/or knowledge of indigenous culture.
 Skills, expertise, experience, knowledge- Ability to read and review large research applications and bring a community perspective to meetings.
- A willingness to be an active contributor.
- Experience in reviewing large documents.
- Experience on a committee.
 Who can apply? Attendance requirements / Time Commitment- Available to attend meetings on Monday afternoons and provide out of session review on an ad hoc basis
- Initial 3-year term.
- The HREC meets ten times each year on a Monday; meetings are from 2-5pm.
- Out-of-session pre-reading of applications is required in preparation for meetings (3-4 hours per month).
 Location- Committee meetings are held at the University of Adelaide, Rundle Mall Plaza, Adelaide or via Microsoft Teams.
 Benefits to the volunteer - Help to advance leading edge research in an important and practical way by bringing an independent view to the HREC.

  International Student Support - Talking With Aussies VolunteerThe Talking With Aussies program helps international students improve their conversational English skills. Volunteers come from a range of age groups and backgrounds, and include students, staff, retirees and working professionals. Responsibilities- To meet with students an hour a week for a Semester.
- To foster students’ language development, helping them to communicate with confidence, strengthen their pronunciation, and Aussie slang. This will be of a general nature; the program is not a tutoring or editing service.
- To engage in a range of conversation topics which may help the student become more familiar with Australian customs and culture.
 Who can apply?Applicants should have a good standard of spoken English, and the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups with a patient and friendly manner.   Peer Connect GuidePeer Connect Guides are enthusiastic and engaged current students who play a vital role in supporting the transition of new students to university life at Adelaide University. They connect new students to their peers, share key university information, and promote available support services from a student perspective. This voluntary role is ideal for students who are passionate about building community, fostering belonging, and enhancing the student experience. Peer Connect Guides contribute to a welcoming and inclusive campus culture through participation in Orientation, networking events, and campus activations. Responsibilities- Support Orientation activities such as campus tours, student panels, icebreakers, and networking sessions.
- Assist with post-orientation networking events to help new students build connections.
- Support campus activations.
- Share personal experiences and insights to help new students navigate university life.
- Promote university support services and refer students where appropriate.
- Communicate with key Adelaide University staff in a timely manner.Ìý
- Represent the University in a professional and inclusive manner.
 Who can apply?- Requires a current Adelaide University enrolment as an undergraduate or postgraduate student with a minimum GPA of 4.0.Ìý
- Not currently enrolled in Adelaide University Online programs or Higher Degree by Research study.
- Able to commit to the full 1-year duration of the role.
- Comfortable engaging with diverse student cohorts and working in a team environment.
