UTS Professor Irina Kabakova visiting IPAS to discuss Brillouin microscopy
IPAS was delighted to host Prof Irina Kabakova from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). During her visit, Prof Kabakova met with IPAS researchers, toured laboratories, and presented a colloquium titled 鈥淏rillouin microscopy for applications in mechanobiology and biomedicine,鈥 describing how this technique enables label-free biomechanical measurements of cells.
The visit included meetings with Prof Kishan Dholakia, Prof Robert McLaughlin, A/Prof Jiawen Li, Dr Andreas Boes, Prof Glenn Solomon, Prof Mark Hutchinson, Prof Andre Luiten, Prof Christopher Sumby, Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, and A/Prof Kylie Dunning, providing opportunities to discuss shared research interests.
Prof Kabakova is also a Chief Investigator and Node Director within COMBS, which brings together researchers working on optical microcombs and their applications across science and technology. Brillouin microscopy is an emerging tool in this area, offering non-invasive access to the mechanical properties of biological systems and supporting research in mechanobiology and biomedicine.
