Prof Kishan Dholakia is SA Scientist of the Year 2025!
The Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) is delighted to celebrate Professor Kishan Dholakia, Director of the Centre of Light for Life, who has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to photonics and transdisciplinary science.
Kishan鈥檚 research spans fundamental and applied photonics, with a strong focus on structured light and precision measurement. His work continues to influence a wide range of fields, including biology and quantum science, and exemplifies the collaborative and innovative spirit of the IPAS community. The award, presented by the Chief Scientist for South Australia, Professor Craig Simmons, acknowledges the impact of this work across disciplines and sectors.
In his address, Kishan reflected on the collective nature of scientific progress, noting that 鈥渟cience is never a solo journey, it is a shared story based on curiosity.鈥 He also paid special tribute to his life and lab partner, Associate Professor Kylie Dunning.
IPAS extends warm congratulations to all members of the Centre of Light for Life whose contributions support this work. We also congratulate our fellow IPAS finalists: Professor Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem, finalist for SA Scientist of the Year, and Professor Withawat Withayachumnankul, finalist for STEMM Educator of the Year. Their achievements highlight the strength and depth of South Australia鈥檚 photonics and sensing community.
With a strong IPAS presence at the event, Kishan鈥檚 recognition was a wonderful way to mark the evening and celebrate the impact of our research community.
