The University of Adelaide's UniBar is being inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame after 50 years of hosting iconic live music.

The UniBar which is located on the University鈥檚 North Terrace campus overlooking the Torrens, has had a storied history since its inception in 1972.

The University of Adelaide鈥檚 Dr Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement) said: 鈥淭he UniBar is a much-loved part of our University. It is an integral part of our student experience, where they connect, celebrate, and form lifelong memories.鈥

鈥淐lassic Australian bands have cut their teeth at the UniBar, such as Silverchair, Powderfinger, and You Am I, as well as international legends like Blink 182.

鈥淚nducting the UniBar into the Hall of Fame recognises its contribution to live music culture in South Australia. It is a richly deserved accomplishment.鈥

UniBar is on the ground floor of Union House at the University of Adelaide. Following a revamp to make the space more modern and versatile, UniBar was nominated for Best Live Music Venue at the 2021 South Australian Music Awards. The bar booked more than 400 artists since the pandemic decimated the live music industry in March 2020, more than any other venue in the state.
